This Master program aims to a training that permits the design and the justification of complex building structures, as well as a deeper understanding in the interaction between the structure and the architecture. The design of a structure is a task with several steps where, in each of them, the analysis of the problem on hand, the study of alternatives, and the decision making are needed.

Firstly, the draft phase implies the selection of materials and typology, that must be done for the particular problem (dwelling, parking lot, sports hall, ...) After, analysis methods and numerical tools for the design, analysis and detailing of the structural elements are selected. and applied. Finally, the construction drawings and specifications are drafted, detailing all relevant elements of the solution. It is necessary, as well, the capacity to deal with actual structures, in its survey or retrofit, both in the case of modern structures as in the historical heritage ones.

In the research field, the Master program provides the specialized training period that is necessary prior to affording an original research. The essentially non-routine and creative nature of the process of structural project, has also the advantage to prepare the future researcher for the tasks of inquiry and critical thinking that are essential components of research activity.
